          One symbol is the blooming flower (with Kerry written on it), which represents Kerry is winning (blooming) in the primary and the caucuses. 

          Another symbol is (are) the wilted flower(s) which represent the other candidates losing (wilting) in the race.

           This cartoon refers to the news that Kerry has won almost all of the primaries and the caucuses and he is likely to win the democratic election race.
