Homeland Security Advisory SystemHint:  The Department of Homeland Security has been issuing alerts to the citizens of the United States since 2002.   (This cartoon is one year old, actually, but still applies to events of this year).  You may have noticed when the alert changes color, as CNN Student News usually discusses it.  Currently, the alert is at Yellow, but it often has been raised to Orange - meaning that a terrorist attack may be probable.  When this cartoon appeared in the Christian Science Monitor last year, we were at level Orange.

Good luck responding to the cartoon!

1.  What is the title of this cartoon? (1 pt.)

Romance in the Post 9/11 World

2.  List all other words you see in this cartoon. (1pt.)

     I Love You

     Spam

     Duct Tape

3.  List two symbols that you see, and what they represent (2 pts.)

The Heart is supposed to represent love.

The contents of the box is supposed to be the "sweets", but represent instead the "safety kit" which the Department of Homeland security said every home should have in the case of a terrorist attack.

4.  Explain the meaning of this cartoon. (1pt.)

You should give your loved one something that will save their life instead of fattening sweets - if you really love them, that is!  This cartoon is spoofing the warning.
