Parents:
Due to family illness over the
vacation, there are no new grades available for the DBQ or Curriculum
Guides.
Students:
Today we begin our new unit of study
called "Industrialization." Topics in this unit will
include the continuing study of minority groups, immigrants who came to
America through Ellis Island, the growth of cities, big business, unions,
and corruption in American business and government. Our next unit,
called the "Progressivism" will be much like the Reconstruction
unit, where America responds to the problems it creates by reinventing
itself (and cleaning up quite a big mess at the same time.)
We begin the first week of 2004 by looking
at America's first industry in the post Civil War era (the railroad) and
how corruption begins both in business, government, and how Native
Americans and farmers were affected by the railroads.
Next week, we begin to examine famous
inventors like Thomas Edison!
